Some Brother!

I am just going to brag a bit about my brother, Pete. He was recently awarded a Fullbright-Hayes Doctoral Dissertation Research Award. I have been braggin to anyone who will listen about Pete for a while, but never in the blogosphere, I don't think. His blog, The Artclectic Academic has lots of details about what he's been doing in Uganda. I usually tell people that he's becoming a 'doctor of drums.' His research is so interesting to me, and getting this award means a lot to him, to FSU, where he goes to school and to his department, Ethnomusicology. It seems to be another message from the universe that if you do what you love, and love what you do, the money will find you! Now if there was only some way to zip up the land between here and Florida so I could plant a wet sloppy one on you, Pete, and then some way to zip up the land between there and Uganda so you and Jenn wouldn't have to be so far away for the time you are there. Way to go, little bro, soon to be Dr. Pete.

You are so sweet. I do wish we could just zip that distance up, but it's not so bad. The first trip was short, the second one was long and this third one will be appropriately somewhere in the middle. I'll be the first to admit, this has been a bit of an alternative path but I'm so grateful for where it's taking us both. This time I'm hoping it takes me to the gorgeous beaches of Zanzibar. Ha! Thanks again, and much love. xoxoxoxo

Thanks, Sarah. Thanks for teaching me early on in this journey that going confidently in the direction of my dreams (to borrow Thoreau's phrase) is the only way to truly live. I hope that your children will continue to get opportunities to travel widely as we have.

Our brotha is a hefty worker, and he is dedicated to his craft-he is very deserving of this award! What a man!!

I think Pete told me this was the first such award to an FSU student in like 5 years or something.

I'm very proud to share the same last name with him, and hopefully I'll do great things with my life someday, too! This is pretty inspiring:)...
